LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Tom Barrett is reminding residents that Michigan’s annual Summer Free Fishing Weekend is this Saturday and Sunday, June 8-9.
“The free fishing weekend helps promote our state’s vast water resources and gives families a great chance to introduce the joy of fishing to another generation — free of charge,” said Barrett, R-Charlotte. “I encourage anyone who loves fishing and the outdoors to take advantage of this free weekend to enjoy fishing on both inland lakes and the Great Lakes for all species of fish.”
During the weekend, all fishing license fees will be waived, but all fishing regulations still apply. The state will also waive the regular Recreation Passport entry fee for vehicle access to Michigan’s 103 state parks and recreation areas.
To celebrate Michigan fishing this weekend, organized activities have been scheduled across the state. For more information, visit www.Michigan.gov/FreeFishing.
On Saturday and Sunday, off-road enthusiasts can ride designated routes and trails without an ORV license or trail permit. Riders can find out more at www.Michigan.gov/ORVInfo.
“This weekend gives families a tremendous opportunity to experience everything that Michigan’s great outdoors has to offer,” Barrett said. “Have a safe and fun time!”
