LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Tom Barrett (third from left) and Rep. Ben Frederick (third from right) presented a state of Michigan tribute to Michigan Works! 2020 Impact Award recipient Matt McNamara of Owosso on Wednesday at a celebration in Lansing.
The Impact Awards honor those who’ve built economic results by creating jobs and developing talent in their communities.
“Matt had to overcome some significant adversity in his life, and with the help of Michigan Works! his future is bright,” said Barrett, R-Charlotte. “Matt has proven his motivation to better himself, and the award he received today is evidence of his hard-earned achievements.”
McNamara completed his Apprenticeship Readiness Training program at Genesee Shiawassee Thumb (GST) Michigan Works! in April of 2019, when he began working as a mason tender apprentice at Schiffer Mason Contractors.
“Matt’s new life and secure employment highlight much work on his part and a strong partnership with Michigan Works! and the Bricklayers Local 2 union apprentice training program,” said Frederick, R-Owosso. “We are all very proud to celebrate with him.”
McNamara’s tribute was signed by Barrett, Frederick, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist.
